Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer has kept more clean sheets than any other keeper in Europe’s top five leagues so far this season.

The Swiss spoke to BeIn Sports, via FCInterNews, after keeping his 21st of the season against Atletico Madrid yesterday evening.

Sommer has certainly enjoyed a positive first season at Inter so far.

The 35-year-old made the switch from Bayern Munich last summer.

And it has been a campaign which has seen Sommer slot right into the team to replace Andre Onana in the Nerazzurri goal.

The veteran keeper has made a big contribution. He has popped up with some key saves at various points throughout the season.

But sometimes on the other hand, Sommer has had little to do.

The former Borussia Mochengladbach and Basel man has not had a single save to make in either of Inter’s last two matches.

Last Friday, Salernitana failed to register a shot on target against Inter in their Serie A clash.

And then yesterday evening, Inter kept Atletico Madrid from shooting on target as well.

Inter Milan Keeper Yann Sommer On The Secret To Clean Sheet Record This Season

As far as the secret to his 21 clean sheets, Sommer said “A good balance between attack and defense in the team.”

“There needs to be harmony on the pitch,” he continued.

The Swiss international also commented on the Nerazzurri’s Champions League win over Atletico yesterday.

Inter won the round of sixteen first leg by a 1-0 scoreline.

“Of course it’s a slender advantage,” Sommer said of the result.

“And there’s still a lot to do in the return leg.”

“But if you always defend well, then with all the quality in the team you can also create chances in attack,” the Inter keeper said ahead of that second leg.

“That’s what a good team does.”
