Inter Milan have announced that Marcus Thuram has suffered an elongation of his right thigh adductor.
The 26-year-old felt pain after attempting a shot during the first-leg clash against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16.
This ensued in the final minutes of the first half.
The striker then left his place on the pitch to Marko Arnautovic after the break. Thankfully for the Nerazzurri, the latter delivered the lone strike of the encounter following a series of misses.
Nevertheless, Thuram’s absence remains a cause of concern for the club.
The Frenchman has cemented himself as a key player in Simone Inzaghi’s starting lineup after forming a deadly partnership with club captain Lautaro Martinez.
The player underwent medical tests today to reveal the extent of the problem.
The club has now announced that the striker has sustained a muscle elongation. His condition will be monitored on a daily basis.
“Marcus Thuram underwent medical tests this morning at the Istituto Clinico Humanitas in Rozzano,” reads the official statement.
“The Nerazzurri forward has suffered an elongation of his right thigh adductor. His condition will be evaluated in the coming days.”
This morning, La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FcInterNews) suggested the player won’t be out of action for a long time.
The pink newspaper tips the France international to be out for a couple of weeks.
Inter Milan Striker Marcus Thuram Suffers Muscle Elongation
The Nerazzurri surely won’t attempt to bring him back against either Lecce or Atalanta, as they wouldn’t want him to suffer a relapse, explains the report.
A return against Genoa on March 4th could also be premature.
Therefore, the source highlights the clash against Bologna on March 10th as a logical return date.
This will be the final clash before the return leg in Madrid. Therefore, this would make for a timely return, allowing the striker to warm his engine before the decisive European clash.
