Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez showed his “predator” instincts to go to triple figures in Serie A with a brace against Lecce.
Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, praised the 26-year-old’s decisive performance in front of goal.
A Martinez goal or two is starting to feel like an inevitability in matches like yesterday’s.
Particularly against sides lower down in the Serie A table, the Argentine rarely loses his relentless drive for goals.
That has meant that Martinez took his total for the Serie A season to 22.
The Inter captain looks to be nearly uncatchable in the race to finish the season as the Italian top flight’s top scorer.
And Martinez has also hit a significant milestone in his career overall.
The Argentine has now scored a hundred goals in Serie A. The opener against Lecce was his hundredth, whilst his second was goal number 101.
Lautaro Martinez Shows “Predator” Instincts In Serie A Victory Vs Lecce
In the opening stages of yesterday’s match, Martinez struggled along with the rest of the team.
Against an aggressive, high-tempo press by Lecce, the Nerazzurri had difficulty stringing the passes together.
And Martinez was culpable of giving the ball away cheaply on a few occasions, adding to the team’s struggles in possession.
But it didn’t take too long for the 26-year-old to click into gear.
As he has done all season, Martinez came alive in the decisive moment close to the opposition goal.
The Nerazzurri captain latched onto a through-ball from midfielder Kristjan Asllani.
Martinez’s first touch bamboozled Lecce defender Ahmed Touba, giving him a bit of space. And his finish arrowed past Giallorossi goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone.
It was a similar story for the Inter captain’s second goal.
Martinez timed his run and finish to perfection to stay onside and slot past Falcone to make it 3-0 for Inter at the end of a counterattacking move.
