Francesco Acerbi will be able to return to action for Inter Milan against either Genoa or Bologna.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who reveal the results of medical tests on the 35-year-old today.

Acerbi has been out with a calf injury since Inter’s match against Roma earlier this month.

The Italian international had started that match at the Stadio Olimpico. However, he had to come off with a calf problem at right around the hour mark.

Stefan de Vrij replaced Acerbi during that match.

And the Dutchman has started in each of Inter’s last three matches, with Acerbi on the sidelines.

Inter have not been taking any chances with the latter’s fitness. He has been given plenty of time in which to recover and not risk reinjury upon his return.

Francesco Acerbi To Return For Inter Vs Either Genoa Or Bologna

Today, Acerbi underwent tests with Inter’s medical staff.

The former Lazio and Sassuolo defender’s recovery is progressing well based on the tests, FCIN report.

Acerbi will not be able to return in time for Inter’s next match. That will be against Atalanta, as the Nerazzurri host their Lombard rivals in the make-p match for the fixture that they missed during the Supercoppa Italiana.

That match is just a couple of days away. And so it would still be out of the question for Acerbi to return quite so soon.

However, Acerbi’s return shouldn’t come too long after that.

According to FCIN, there is a chance of the 35-year-old being called up the following match, against Genoa next Monday.

And if Acerbi isn’t part of the squad for that match, he should be ready for the following one, away to Bologna.

In any event, FCIN report, Acerbi should be at full fitness when Inter travel to Madrid to face Atletico in a Champions League round of sixteen tie next month.
