Inter Milan are hoping to open up a twelve-point lead in the Serie A table over Juventus by beating Atalanta tomorrow.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, note the potential stakes of tomorrow evening’s Serie A match at the San Siro.

In the last few weeks, Inter have gained a sizable lead in the Serie A table.

This has been due to a combination of a few unexpected stumbles by title rivals Juventus, and the Nerazzurri’s own absolutely relentless form.

At the moment, the gap stands at nine points.

But Inter have the additional potential buffer of their game in hand.

The Nerazzurri missed their Serie A match at home to Atalanta in mid-January. This was the result of the team being away in Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa Italiana at the time.

Therefore, the match was postponed.

Inter and Atalanta will finally meet tomorrow evening. Then, Inter will have played the same amount of matches as Juventus and all the rest of the teams in Serie A.

Inter Milan Eyeing Up 12-Point Lead Over Juventus In Serie A Table

The prospect of a double-digit lead at the top would certainly add to the sense that Inter are the big favourites to go on and win the Serie A title.

But of course, the Nerazzurri cannot take the points for granted.

Inter found that out the hard way two seasons ago. They had a game in hand against Bologna, which they did not play until April.

That game in hand always gave Inter theoretical control over their own destiny in the title race with AC Milan.

But Inter lost that match away in Emilia-Romagna. That was ultimately the decisive moment that allowed the Rossoneri to go on and win the title.

So the Nerazzurri will be wary of taking anything for granted.

One way or the other, after tomorrow evening, Inter will know exactly where they stand. And so will Juventus.
