Inter Milan are “optimistic” that midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu can return to fitness for the team’s Serie A match against Bologna.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. The broadcaster anticipate that Calhanoglu certainly won’t be fit for tomorrow’s match against Genoa, but could return soon after.

Calhanoglu has already missed a couple of injuries due to a thigh strain.

The 30-year-old had picked up the problem shortly before Inter’s Serie A match away to Lecce. He was out for that match, and also for the following match, at home to Atalanta.

And it had not initially been clear whether or not Calhanoglu would be able to be fit to face Genoa tomorrow.

Inter host the Grifone at the San Siro in Serie A.

But it is now clear that Calhanoglu will not be able to be part of the squad for that match.

The former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder was not part of today’s team training session. He continued to work on his recovery program.

Inter “Optimistic” Hakan Calhanoglu Can Be Fit Vs Bologna

The next match that Inter play will be on Saturday of next weekend.

The Nerazzurri will travel to Emilia-Romagna to face Bologna.

As far as Calhanoglu’s recovery process goes, he should still have a few days to go. But it won’t be more than that.

And the Turk will have the better part of a week in which to get back to fitness.

Therefore, there is every chance of Calhanoglu being available for the match against Bologna.

Then, the question will be whether or not the Turkish international will be ready to start that match.

Inter’s following match is a hugely significant Champions League round of sixteen second leg away to Atletico Madrid. That will certainly be a priority to have Calhanoglu back.

But if nothing else, the 30-year-old will be able to use the Bologna match to get his fitness back.

In the meantime, it has been Kristjan Asllani filling in for Calhanoglu.
