Midfielder Kristjan Asllani has earned praise for his mature display in midfield for Inter Milan against Genoa yesterday evening.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, award the Albanian a score of 6.5/10 in the player ratings for the match.

Asllani’s goal is undoubtedly the big story as far as his performance in yesterday’s match.

The 21-year-old notched his first ever goal in an Inter shirt.

And it was a highly consequential moment in which to find the back of the net. Asllani’s goal broke the deadlock in a match that was one of the toughest Inter have had in weeks.

Moreover, it was a very well-taken goal from the former Empoli midfielder.

Asllani timed his forward run perfectly. The Albanian showed great composure in the penalty area, and finished with precision and power.

But the goal was not all that Asllani brought to the Inter team.

The Albanian international was filling in for Hakan Calhanoglu for the third match in a row. He was playing in the regista position.

That is a highly demanding role, particularly for a young player like Asllani.

The holding midfield position requires technical precision, tactical awareness, concentration, and a lot of running.

There were one or two moments where Asllani’s lack of experience perhaps showed through.

The 21-year-old turned the ball over in his own half unnecessarily in a couple instances, including in the buildup to Genoa’s goal.

But Asllani did not lose his confidence after that. And he had a big role to play in Inter seeing out the match.

The Albanian dropped deep to always make himself a passing option for the defenders. And he circulated the ball very well to set the tempo.

This was a key part of Inter holding off the frenetic-high-tempo Genoa team in the closing stages of the Serie A victory.
