From Nicolo Barella to Benjamin Pavard, several key Inter Milan players could be rested in Saturday’s Serie A match against Bologna.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

In terms of his lineup decisions on Saturday, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi won’t necessarily just have Bologna in mind.

The Nerazzurri coach will also have one eye on the match against Atletico Madrid next week.

Just a few days after taking on the Rossoblu, Inter will travel to Madrid.

In the Spanish capital, the Nerazzurri will play the decisive second leg of their round of sixteen tie against Atletico.

Naturally, this could be one of the most significant matches of Inter’s season. And with just a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, it will certainly be one in which Inzaghi wants his key players at their best.

Several Key Inter Starters Could Be Rested In Serie A Clash Vs Bologna

Of course, Inzaghi will still treat this weekend’s match as an important one.

Inter take on Bologna, who have been one of the form teams in Serie A all season long. They have been the surprise package, as they have secured a spot in the top four of the table.

The Rossoblu came from 2-0 down to take a 2-2 draw back to Emilia-Romagna from the San Siro in the reverse fixture.

And Bologna also were the team to knock Inter out of the Coppa Italia.

So Inzaghi and Inter will know the quality of the team they’re up against, and the motivation that they will have to hold onto their spot in the top four.

Moreover, Inter could want a bit of revenge for the last two results against Bologna this season, as well as other recent matches.

So it will not be a weak Inter team at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara by any means.

But Inzaghi will make some changes.

Firstly, Alessandro Bastoni will return from suspension. That could allow Carlos Augusto to move up to wingback from the defensive line.

Therefore Federico Dimarco could get a rest.

Moreover, Davide Frattesi could start. Therefore, one of Nicolo Barella or Henrikh Mkhitaryan could get a rest from the start in view of Wednesday’s trip to Madrid.

And lastly, Bastoni’s return could also allow for another change. Inzaghi could decide to rest Benjamin Pavard on the right of the defense, the Gazzetta reports.
