Legendary Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar is impressed by the current Nerazzurri crop, including his successor Yann Sommer.

The Brazilian protected Inter’s goal during the unforgettable treble-winning campaign in 2009/10.

The 44-year-old gives his blessing to the current squad which has been achieving remarkable feats this term.

“Inter are Strong and fierce,” noted Cesar in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“I have always thought that the most beautiful, important, almost magical thing in football is trust.

“You have to trust in yourself and your teammates. You must all feel strong together.

“This Inter is the perfect example of what ‘trust’ means. You can see it in the way they play, they look for each other, they believe in what they do and they win.

“They have achieved a status that allows them to aim for any objective. The scudetto is almost in the bag and even the Champions League is possible.”

Inter Milan Legend Julio Cesar Was Surprised By Yann Sommer

Despite the defeat, the retired goalkeeper underlines last season’s Champions League final against Manchester City as the starting point for the Nerazzurri.

“It all started from Man City. I could mention Inzaghi’s arrival, as he is fantastically managing everything.

“But much of what we are experiencing was born in the Champions League final. For everyone, Manchester City should have won by a landslide but instead they risked defeat.

“The legacy of that clash was important regardless of the result. At that moment, the whole world realized how mature this Inter had become.

“First of all, however, Inter themselves noticed it. They now believe in themselves.”

Cesar also admitted that Yann Sommer’s impressive displays have taken him by surprise.

“Honestly, I didn’t expect Sommer to be this good. He surprised me in a positive way. He’s a certainty for the team.

“Yann came after Onana, a goalkeeper who had changed Inter with his way of starting the action from deep.

“Sommer took his place with simplicity, after all you, don’t move to Bayern by chance.

“Replacing Neuer isn’t for everyone, given the qualities he has, so kudos to Sommer who has proven to be an excellent late bloomer.”
