Wingback Carlos Augusto came off at halftime of this evening’s clash between Bologna and Inter Milan due to a calf problem.

This according to Italian news outlet Pazza di Fanta. The outlet reports that the 25-year-old came off as a precaution due to some pain in his right calf.

Former Monza wingback Augusto started this evening’s Serie A match at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

The Brazilian started on the left flank. This gave Federico Dimarco the chance to rest ahead of this week’s Champions League match against Atletico Madrid.

Augusto has been a regular in the lineup in recent weeks.

The 25-year-old started on the left of the back three against Genoa on Monday. He has shown his versatility by playing both in defense and on the flank this season.

Carlos Augusto Forced Off With Calf Problem In Bologna Vs Inter Clash

Augusto only played the first half of this evening’s match against Bologna, however.

The Brazilian did not emerge with the rest of the team at halftime. Instead, Denzel Dumfries was substituted on in his place.

Dumfries came into the team on the right flank.

This meant that Matteo Darmian, who had started at right-wingback, shifted over to the left flank where Augusto had been playing.

According to Pazza di Fanta, the reason for this was not a technical decision by Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.

Rather, the fitness of Augusto was the reason for the substitution.

The Brazilian had indicated at the end of the first half that he had been feeling some pain in his right calf.

Therefore, no risks were taken with Augusto’s fitness.

The Brazilian came off at halftime so that he will not worsen any possible injury by continuing to play.

Further medical tests should indicate the seriousness of the injury that Augusto has suffered.
