Italian journalist Fabio Caressa feels that under Simone Inzaghi, Inter Milan have an extremely attacking style of play.

Caressa spoke on Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. He praised the Nerazzurri coach as being “more modern” than he’s acknowledged of being.

Under Inzaghi, Inter are a versatile side.

The Nerazzurri are capable of both counterattacking, and playing with the majority of possession.

There is no doubt that Inzaghi’s preferred approach is to move quickly from back to front.

But the Nerazzurri can be patient in how they move the ball forward.

And moreover, as the goal from Yann Bisseck against Bologna yesterday showed, everyone in the team can get involved in attack in open play – at least in terms of outfield players.

The assist from Alessandro Bastoni in an advanced position, and the aggressive attacking run of Bisseck into the penalty area – both from positions in the defensive line – are a testament to that.

And moreover, Inter can attack in that manner even in matches where they are not dominating the ball.

That was the case against Bologna yesterday. The Rossobly were the team with more possession.

But Inter were still able to be proactive in getting numbers forward when they had the chance.

Caressa: Simone Inzaghi Has Inter Attacking With Nine Men

Caressa observed that “At Lazio, we were used to goals scored where one wingback passed to the other wingback.

“This time, the goal was from centre-back to centre-back.”

“This allows us to understand how Inzaghi is much more modern than he is often given credit for,” Caressa went on.

“Because he attacks with nine men.

“This forces the opposition attackers to chase Inter’s defenders back,” the journalist noted.

“And we know that forwards are not always great at marking.”

Caressa added, “Now Inter will have to think about their match against Atletico Madrid.”

“That won’t be an easy match. Inter must show once again how great of a team they are” Caressa concluded.
