Wingback Carlos Augusto and striker Marko Arnautovic will both be out for Wednesday’s match between Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

If there was one real dark spot on Saturday’s win over Bologna on Inter, it concerned injuries.

Firstly, there was wingback Augusto. The 25-year-old former Monza and Corinthians man was forced off with a calf injury.

It is not yet certain exactly how serious the problem is for Augusto.

But the Brazilian international indicated at halftime of the match that he had felt pain in his right calf.

Therefore, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided to substitute Augusto off as a precaution.

Denzel Dumfries took the Brazilian’s place for the second half. He slotted in on the right, whilst Matteo Darmian shifted over to the left.

And meanwhile, striker Arnautovic picked up a thigh problem very late in the second half.

In the last couple minutes of stoppage time, the Austrian went down holding his left thigh.

Augusto & Arnautovic To Miss Atletico Madrid Vs Inter UCL Showdown

According to the Gazzetta, one thing that’s clear is that both Augusto and Arnautovic will be out for Inter’s next match.

And that will be a very big one. On Wednesday, Inter travel to Spain to take on Atletico Madrid in the second leg of a Champions League round of sixteen tie.

Inter have a 1-0 advantage from the first leg last month. But they will know that playing away in the Spanish capital will be a different proposition.

On the left flank, Federico Dimarco will certainly start – but his usual deputy Augusto will be unavailable.

And in attack, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will have just three senior strikers to call on for the match – Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, and Alexis Sanchez.
