Inter Milan have confirmed that wingback Carlos Augusto and striker Marko Arnautovic will miss Wednesday’s match against Atletico Madrid.

The club gave an official update on the condition of the duo following medical tests today.

If there was one real dark spot on Saturday’s win over Bologna on Inter, it concerned injuries.

Firstly, there was wingback Augusto. The 25-year-old former Monza and Corinthians man was forced off with a calf injury.

But the Brazilian international indicated at halftime of the match that he had felt pain in his right calf.

Therefore, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided to substitute Augusto off as a precaution.

Denzel Dumfries took the Brazilian’s place for the second half. He slotted in on the right, whilst Matteo Darmian shifted over to the left.

And meanwhile, striker Arnautovic picked up a thigh problem very late in the second half.

In the last couple minutes of stoppage time, the Austrian went down holding his left thigh.

Inter Confirm Carlos Augusto & Marko Arnautovic Out For Atletico Madrid Clash

Both Augusto and Arnautovic underwent tests with the club’s medical staff today.

And these have revealed the severity of the injuries for the pair.

For wingback Augusto, the problem is an elongation of the soleus muscle in his right leg.

Meanwhile, in the case of striker Arnautovic, the 34-year-old suffered a muscle strain. The tests revealed a strain to his right hamstring.

Inter confirm that Augusto and Arnautovic will undergo tests in the next few days to shed more light on their injuries and on what the recovery timeline will look like.

And the team travel to Spain to face Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

That means that there is certainly no chance of seeing either Augusto or Arnautovic return in time for that Champions League round of sixteen second leg.

Meanwhile, the following match will be against Napoli in Serie A on Sunday. After that comes the international break.
