Diego Simeone feels that Atletico Madrid are determined to “avenge” their Champions League loss to Inter Milan this evening.

The Colchoneros boss spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, ahead of the round of sixteen second leg.

Atletico will not exactly have a mountain to climb against Inter.

But the La Liga side will know that they are at a disadvantage in the tie after losing the first of two matches to Inter 1-0 last month.

Moreover, it was not just the result that was a problem for Atletico.

The Spanish giants were also outplayed. They did play an intense match and did what they could to cause problems for Inter. But the Nerazzurri were more than good value for the victory.

Inter had the chances to score another goal or two. Meanwhile, Atletico were not able to muster a single shot on target to trouble Nerazzurri keeper Yann Sommer.

Therefore, Simeone will undoubtedly feel that his team did not give a good account of themselves at the San Siro.

And, playing in front of their fans, the Spaniards will want to show what they’re really capable of.

Diego Simeone: Atletico Want To Avenge First Leg Loss To Inter

Simeone noted that “Inter are in very good form right now.”

“But we want to avenge the first leg, when we played a very poor match,” the Atletico coach continued.

Simeone went on to answer a question of whether Inter are the strongest team in Europe at the moment.

“They’re certainly among the strongest,” the Argentine tactician said.

“They have a very clear,l direct style of play.,” he went on.

“Which the player apply very well.”

Simeone added that “I expect the usual intense atmosphere from the crowd tonight.

“And we hope that we can bring the same sort of desire to go through to the next round that the fans will undoubtedly have.”
