Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi urged his players to put the Champions League disappointment behind them as rapidly as possible.

The Italian giants won the first leg of the Round of 16 against Atletico Madrid thanks to Marko Arnautovic’s solitary strike.

However, they couldn’t build on the result to book a place in the quarter-finals.

Instead, the Spaniards pulled off a comeback to take the tie to extra time following a 2-2 draw on aggregate. They eventually emerged victorious on penalty shootouts.

But despite the heartbreaking elimination, Inzaghi made sure his players didn’t succumb to despair.

The 47-year-old insisted on maintaining a high spirit in the locker room straight after the defeat.

“The journey is not slowing down. Our European journey has lasted for three years,” said Inzaghi in his post-match speech as reported by Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInter1908.

“I am proud of the results we have achieved. Now let’s bring home the Scudetto as quickly as possible.”

As the source tells it, the Nerazzurri returned to Italy on Wednesday night and spent the night at Appiano Gentile.

The coach then spent his morning preparing for the Napoli clash along with his technical collaborators.

The team then had a light training session, mainly involving players who didn’t start the clash against Atletico Madrid.

On Friday, the team will resume preparations for Sunday’s Serie A showdown.

The Nerazzurri will be eager to make a statement by beating the reigning Italian champions, despite possessing a large gap on top of the Serie A table.
