Matteo Darmian feels that Inter Milan will need to play at a high level if they want to get the result against Napoli this evening.

The 34-year-old spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, ahead of the Nerazzurri’s Serie A clash against last season’s champions.

Inter and Napoli are both heading into this evening’s match in a somewhat awkward phase of their seasons.

Both the Nerazzurri and the Partenopei suffered the disappointment of elimination from the Champions League during the week.

And both of the pair must now quickly turn their attention back to Serie A.

In Inter’s case, the task at hand will be the see out the run-in of the season clinching the title. They have a whopping thirteen-point advantage over AC Milan going into this evening’s match, but can take nothing for granted.

And for Napoli, there is plenty to play for. Of course, last season’s champions will want to salvage their pride.

But beyond that, Francesco Calzone’s men will know that a European place is at stake over the remainder of the season.

And Napoli have the quality to get a result against anyone in Serie A. Including this team’s runaway leaders Inter.

Darmian: Inter Need To Play A Great Match To Take Three Points Vs Napoli

Inter defender Darmian said of the Partenopei that “They’ve once again found the sense of certainty that perhaps they had lost at the start of the season.

“They’re in good form,” he continued of this evening’s opposition.

“And we have to take care. Because they’re a strong team not just in terms of individual quality, but also collectively.”

“We’ll have to play a great match if we’re to take home the three points.”

Asked if he thinks that the role of the wingbacks could be decisive, Darmian replied “It’s not just that that will be decisive.”

“We have to play a great match as a team,” the former Manchester United and Torino defender said.

“Both in the offensive and defensive phases.”
