Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi will be questioned by an Italian FA prosecutor regarding an alleged racial abuse incident on Friday.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it.

Inter defender Acerbi is under investigation for the alleged use of a racial slur during an argument with Napoli’s Juan Jesus during Sunday evening’s Serie A match.

The 36-year-old former Lazio and Sassuolo defender insists that he did not use any racially discriminatory language.

However, Jesus has claimed with equal vehemence that Acerbi had used the racial slur. The Brazilian says that the Inter defender apologized during the match, but then later changed his story.

The prosecutors’ office of the Italian FA is currently investigating the incident.

It is prosecutor Giuseppe Chine who is heading up the investigation.

Chine and his associates will speak with both players involved in the incident. They will also review all available video footage, and also potentially interview other players and referees who were on the pitch at the time.

Francesco Acerbi To Be Questioned By Italian FA Prosecutors On Friday

Acerbi has already publicly spoken to deny the allegations of racist language.

The Italian international also met with Inter to give his version of events.

Acerbi denied that he had racially abused Jesus during the match, and suggested that the Napoli defender had misunderstood something he had seen.

And soon, the 36-year-old will also have to give his account to the Italian FA.

The Gazzetta report that Acerbi will speak to prosecutor Chine at the end of this week.

Chine and his associates will speak to the Nerazzurri player via a video call.

The prosecutor will question Acerbi about what happened on the pitch during Sunday’s match. He will then compare the Inter player’s account to that of Jesus.

Then, Chine will come up with a verdict as to whether or not Acerbi racially abused Jesus.

Should the prosecutor conclude that Acerbi did indeed use racially discriminatory language, then the Inter defender would face a lengthy suspension of at least ten matches.
