The investigation into an alleged racism incident in a match between Inter Milan and Napoli won’t be complete before Monday.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper also report that there would be no possibility of a plea agreement regarding the incident for Francesco Acerbi.

At the moment, the investigation into the alleged racist abuse during Sunday’s match between Inter and Napoli is ongoing.

Nerazzurri defender Francesco Acerbi continues to maintain that he did not direct a racial slur at Partenopei player Juan Jesus.

But the 36-year-old will have to give his story to the prosecutors now investigating the incident.

Prosecutor Giuseppe Chine is now heading up the investigation. He took over at the request of the Sporting Judge yesterday.

Chine will speak with Jesus, and with Acerbi. The prosecutor will aim to get both players’ versions of events.

Alleged Racism Investigation Into Inter Vs Napoli Won’t Be Complete Before Monday

Naturally, there is a certain urgency to complete this investigation in a timely manner.

But according to the Corriere, it will not be wrapped up in the next couple days.

Chine will still have to interview both players involved in the alleged incident.

And the prosecutor will also review video footage, and possibly speak to other individuals who were on the pitch at the time, including players and referees.

That will take time.

Therefore, Chine’s verdict will not arrive before next Monday.

Meanwhile, the Corriere report, there would be no possibility of a plea agreement for Acerbi to reduce any sanction he were to hypothetically receive for the incident.

Acerbi had reached such an agreement with the authorities regarding an obscene gesture he had made towards Roma fans during a Serie A match in February.

But with the Italian FA prosecutor now fully heading up the investigation, there would be no such possibility in this case.
