Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi could miss out on a call-up for the Euro 2024 due to the alleged racial abuse case.

The ugly episode took place at San Siro during last Sunday’s Serie A clash between the Nerazzurri and Napoli.

Partenopei defender Juan Jesus told the referee that Acerbi had addressed him while using a racist slur.

Despite apologizing on the field, the Inter veteran then denied using the n-word.

The FIGC prosecutor is now investigating the episode, but in the meantime, the Italian national team preferred to send the player home to distance themselves from the media storm.

Acerbi has been a mainstay in the national team and an almost automatic starter in Luciano Spalletti’s formation.

Therefore, many would have thought that the player has already locked in a berth for Euro 2024.

Yet, the situation could dramatically change for the former Lazio and Sassuolo man.

According to Tuttosport via FcInterNews, the alleged racial abuse case could cost Acerbi a call-up for the European Championship.

This would probably be the case if he were to receive a 10-match ban.

Inter Milan Defender Francesco Acerbi Could Miss Out On Italy Call-up For Euro 2024

With only nine rounds remaining in the season, this lengthy suspension would spell the end of his club campaign.

Moreover, it would have major consequences on his Euro 2024 hopes, with Spalletti unlikely to call him up in this case.

Even Inter could decide to take some drastic measures if the player is to be found guilty.

The club could also launch an anti-racism campaign as a response to the ugly row.
