Former defender Fabio Galante believes that the season Inter Milan are currently having is a “reward” for the fans of the club.

Speaking to reporters via FCInterNews, Galante gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s current campaign.

Inter fans have been through plenty of ups and downs in the past few years.

Three years ago, the Nerazzurri won the Serie A title for the first time in over a decade.

The following season, the team came very close to repeating that feat, but fell short on the final day of the season. AC Milan pipped them to the title by just two points.

Then last time around, Inter reached the final of the Champions League.

That run through the knockout stages of the competition gave Inter fans plenty to celebrate. But the team and the fans ultimately had to suffer the heartbreak of a narrow defeat in the final to Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Inter were well short in the league last season. They endured an erratic Serie A campaign.

And over the past three seasons, the Nerazzurri have won the Coppa Italia twice, and the Supercoppa Italiana on three occasions.

Fabio Galante: Inter Milan Rewarding Their Fans With This Season

This time around, Inter have crashed out of both the Coppa Italia and the Champions League at the round of sixteen stage.

That accounts for the negative side of the season.

But in Serie A, Inter have been in flying form. They are currently fourteen points clear at the top of the league table, the certain favourites to lift the title.

Galante gave the view that “The journey last season was beautiful.”

“Reaching the final of the Champions League in Istanbul and playing against City. Reaching the Coppa Italia final and winning it.”

“This year, the Champions League didn’t go according to plan,” Galante noted.

“But let’s not forget that in the Champions League you come up against very strong teams. And Atletico is certainly a team like that.”

“Let’s say it wasn’t a lucky evening,” Galante said. “We took the lead, we had chances.”

“We’re close to winning the league title,” the former defender added. “So I think it’s been a great season, which rewards the fans, the club, the directors.”

“Every weekend it’s always a spectacle to go to the stadium. It’s always full and the fans show how close they are to the team.”
