Italy coach Luciano Spalletti feels that players from Inter Milan will form a “block” at the core of the Azzurri’s squad for EURO 2024.

The coach praised the versatility that players from the Nerazzurri offer in a press conference after his team beat Ecuador in a friendly match, as reported by FCInterNews.

Four Inter players started for Italy in yesterday evening’s match.

Both Matteo Darmian and Alessandro Bastoni played on either side of the Azzurri’s back three.

Wingback Federico played on the left flank for his national team. And then midfielder Nicolo Barella also started.

In addition, Inter’s Davide Frattesi also came off the bench during the match.

So that makes five Inter players who Spalletti used in one of the final friendly matches that he’ll have to test out his squad for the upcoming Euros.

That is a testament to the fact that Inter have built their squad around some of the top Italian players currently active.

And it also shows how Spalletti is using that strong core at the heart of the Nerazzurri squad as a foundation to build his own team on for the Euros.

That will also include modelling Italy’s tactical shape after that of Inter.

Spalletti: Inter Players A “Block” At Heart Of Italy EURO 2024 Squad

Italy coach Spalletti said that “Players who can play in multiple positions have an advantage in terms of being called up [for the Euros.]”

“There will be a lot of different roles in the team for them to interpret,” the coach went on.

“For example, the block of players from Inter. We’ve said this multiple times, that’s the block we get the most from numerically, and they play in a back three.”

“That’s something we have to keep in mind,” Spalletti said of the back three defense. “It’s something we have to try.”

“We have to take into account putting them on the pitch in a way they’re comfortable with based on how they play at their clubs.”
