Inter Milan are the club to have paid the highest amount in agent commissions in Serie A in the summer of 2023.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, note that the Nerazzurri payed a total of around €35 million in commissions, out of €220 million from Serie A as a whole.

Agent commissions have become more and more prominent as a feature within football.

Clubs make significant payments to the representatives of players, in addition to spending on transfer fees and player wages.

The Gazzetta note that between the summer transfer windows of 2022 and 2023, there was a 6.8% jump in the total agent commissions paid by Serie A clubs.

The figure increased from 205 million to 220 million between the two summers.

And Inter are the team to have paid the highest amount in total.

Inter Milan Lead Serie A For Wage Commissions Payed In 2023 With €35 Million

The Gazzetta report that the total amount that Inter payed in agent commissions last summer was 35 million.

This was spread out between 57 total payments. There were often multiple different commission payments that concerned different transfers.

The fact that Inter have focused so much on free transfers was a key factor why they lead the way in this respect.

Whilst signing players out of contract means avoiding playing a fee to their previous clubs, it can also entail making higher payments to those players’ representatives.

And Inter made several free transfer signings last summer – Marcus Thuram, Juan Cuadrado, and Alexis Sanchez.

And it was in the case of Thuram in particular that Inter payed a hefty sum in agent commissions.

The Gazzetta report that the Nerazzurri paid the Frenchman’s representatives a total of 8 million in commissions.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta report, Juventus come second in terms of agent commissions.

The Bianconeri made a total of €23 million in agent commissions last summer.
