Lautaro Martinez will be aiming to snap his recent club goal drought in Inter Milan’s Serie A match against Empoli on Monday.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

It has now been more than a month since Martinez scored for Inter.

The 26-year-old’s flying season has hit a bit of a slowdown.

Martinez is still comfortably clear at the top of the Serie A scoring charts. Inter’s captain has an eight-goal buffer ahead of Juventus talisman Dusan Vlahovic, having scored 23 league goals so far.

But there is no ignoring the fact that March has not been a great month for Martinez at club level.

The Argentine failed to extend his total in Serie A in matches against Genoa, Bologna, and Napoli.

And in the Champions League, Inter’s captain looked ineffective in front of goal as the Nerazzurri squandered a first leg advantage to crash out against Atletico Madrid at the round of sixteen stage.

Martinez missed the decisive penalty for Inter in a shootout. The captain’s skied effort was emblematic of the team’s overall flat performance in the Spanish capital.

Lautaro Martinez Aims To Snap Inter Goal Drought Vs Empoli

So Martinez will certainly be targeting a more productive April than March.

And the omen from the international break could be good.

Martinez broke a longstanding goal drought for Argentina by scoring against Costa Rice in a friendly during the break.

Moreover. the Inter captain entered the Albiceleste’s all-time top ten goalscorers with that goal.

Martinez will now hope that he can transfer that to the Nerazzurri.

Inter return to action against Empoli in Serie A this Monday. They host the relegation-battling Tuscans at the San Siro.

And Martinez will be hoping for a goal or two to get back on track for a fiery end to the campaign.
