Goalkeeper Yann Sommer has recovered from injury and will start for Inter Milan against Empoli on Monday evening.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The Gazzetta also anticipate that Marko Arnautovic and Stefan de Vrij will be absent.

35-year-old former Bayern Munich keeper Sommer was one Inter who picked up an injury during the international break.

Sommer was with the Switzerland international team during the break.

However, the Swiss made an early return due to an injury that he had picked up.

Sommer suffered an ankle sprain during his national team’s friendly match against Denmark. The Inter keeper had to come off during the first half of that match.

That had led to some doubt about whether or not Sommer would be able to start in Inter’s first match back from the break.

The Nerazzurri host Empoli in Serie A on Monday evening.

And Sommer has been recovering from his injury for the past week or so.

Yann Sommer Fit To Start For Inter Vs Empoli

According to the Gazzetta, however, there should be no problems for Sommer to start against Empoli.

The 35-year-old’s recovery has not taken long.

The Gazzetta report that Sommer is already working normally in training. There is little doubt about the veteran goalkeeper’s readiness to start against Empoli.

That means that Sampdoria-owned keeper Emil Audero will not get his second Serie A start of the season.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta report, it is a different story for striker Arnautovic and defender de Vrij.

The Austrian and Dutch internationals are still recovering from their injuries.

The Gazzetta also report that Inter coach has yet to decide who will start in a couple positions.

On the right of defense, either Benjamin Pavard or Yann Bisseck could start.

And on the right flank, it could be either Matteo Darmian or Denzel Dumfries.
