Torino striker Duvan Zapata feels that Inter Milan are more-than-deserving of winning the Serie A title this season.

The former Napoli and Atalanta striker spoke to Milan-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, via FCInterNews. He was also full of praise for Nerazzurri strikers Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.

Inter have not yet put the seal on the Serie A table for this season.

But the feeling is certainly that it is a matter of “when” rather than “if” the Nerazzurri clinch it.

With nine matches to go, and 27 points on offer, Inter currently have a fourteen-point buffer at the top of the Serie A table.

It is city rivals AC Milan who are the closest team to making contact with Inter.

Juventus had been the Nerazzurri’s main rivals for months. However, a sharp decline in form from the Bianconeri has turned the title race – if it can be called that – into a Milan derby of sorts.

And in fact, the derby between Inter and Milan next month could be decisive.

Depending on how the next three weekends go, Inter could very well clinch the title with a result against their great rivals the Rossoneri.

Duvan Zapata: Inter Milan Deserve To Win The Serie A Table

“The Nerazzurri are the strongest team in Serie A,” said Torino striker Zapata.

“They have been throughout the whole season, and it’s clear. They deserve it.”

As far as who he considers to be the top striker in the Italian top flight, Zapata said that “Lautaro is ahead of everyone else.”

“Then, Thuram and Lukaku. Even though my absolute favourite no longer plays in Italy.”

As for who his favourite striker in Serie A had been, Zapata named an ex-Inter striker.

“Edin Dzeko!” the Colombian said. “He’s just too good, he’s a magnificent striker and complete in every sense.”

“I’d been following him since he was at Wolfsburg,” Zapata said of Dzeko.

As far as the toughest defender to be marked by, Zapata also named an Inter player. “De Vrij,” the Torino striker.

Meanwhile, as far as a player in Serie A he’s most like to have as a teammate, Zapata named “Calhanoglu.”

“He’s always picking his head up. He’s very good at finding the striker with those long balls.”
