Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is aiming to score his tenth Serie A goal at the San Siro for the season against Empoli this evening.

This is highlighted by Italian news outlet FCInter1908.

Inter captain Martinez is in the midst of an outstanding goalscoring season.

The 26-year-old has found the back of the net 23 times in Serie A so far this campaign.

That means that Martinez is all but certain to finish the season as Inter’s top goalscorer for the third season running. It also means that he is certainly the odd-on favourite to finish the season as Serie A’s top goalscorer.

Martinez has scored eight more goals than the division’s second-highest goalscorer, Juventus talisman Dusan Vlahovic.

Finishing as Capocannoniere is one thing that Martinez has yet to do in his career.

But this season should see the Inter captain do just that.

Martinez could have have a hope of chasing the all-time Serie A goalscoring record. That belongs jointly to Gonzalo Higuain and Ciro Immobile.

That record is 36 goals. So Martinez would have to score more than a goal every match to hit that figure.

But there is no reason for the Argentine not to be ambitious.

One quirk of Martinez’s goalscoring record this season is that the Argentine has actually scored away from home more often than in front of the Inter fans.

The Inter captain has found the back of the net nine times at the San Siro.

Meanwhile, Martinez has scored fourteen times away from home.

This includes the 26-year-old’s remarkable four-goal second half away to Salernitana.

But scoring in front of the San Siro crowd always means something special.

So Martinez will be aiming to do so for the tenth time this season.

The Argentine will also hope to score his first goal for Inter since February. He was not able to score against any of Genoa, Atletico Madrid, or Napoli.

Meanwhile Martinez was an unused substitute against Bologna in Serie A last month.
