It’s now a matter of “when” rather than “if” Inter Milan win the Serie A title after beating Empoli.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

It is not as though Inter weren’t already prohibitive favourites to win the Serie A title prior to kickoff yesterday at the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri have amassed a large advantage in the table over the past few months.

Even after city rivals AC Milan had beaten Fiorentina on Saturday, Inter were still 11 points clear at the top. Before playing Empoli at the San Siro.

However, Inter still had – and have – work to do.

The match against Empoli was never likely to be as straightforward as it looked on paper.

The Tuscans had actually beaten Inter 1-0 on their previous visit to the San Siro. And they had all the motivation in the world to get a shock result considering that they are in the relegation battle.

Had Inter failed to take three points against Empoli, the doubts may have crept in.

Each slip-up but the Nerazzurri would of course be an opportunity for Milan to eat up some ground ahead of this month’s derby clash.

Inter Take Another Step Towards Serie A Title With Win Vs Empoli

In the end, though, there was no slip-up from Inter.

The Nerazzurri saw out the match with another clean sheet, and a couple of goals courtesy of Federico Dimarco and Alexis Sanchez.

Empoli did indeed make it a tougher match for Inter than the form table – or the final scoreline – may have suggested.

Despite conceding a very early goal, the relegation-battlers went on to find their footing.

Empoli caused problems for Inter in the first half of the match in particular.

But Inter showed their maturity, confidence, and technical quality to win in the end.

And with that step, the Serie A title looks even more inevitable for the Nerazzurri than ever.
