Beppe Begomi believes that Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram struggled against Empoli, but Inter Milan’s defense looked solid.

Inter got the job done against Empoli at the San Siro yesterday.

Another clean sheet and goals from Federico Dimarco and Alexis Sanchez were enough for three points and another step towards the Serie A title.

It was hardly the most eye-catching performance from Inter this season.

But it didn’t have to be. The team found a very early lead from an excellent sweeping finish by Dimarco following an early flurry, and then held out despite a fair bit of Empoli pressure.

That does not mean that the team always shone.

And a few players, in particular, did not look at their best in the eyes of former defender Bergomi.

Bergomi: Lautaro & Thuram Struggled Vs Empoli, Inter Defense Stayed Solid

Bergomi reacted to the match yesterday by saying that “At the moment, Inter are having some difficulties scoring.”

“Lautaro and Thuram are struggling,” the former Inter captain said.

“In fact, in the last few matches, all the goals have come from defenders,” Bergomi continued.

The former defender gave the view that “I see the team having a hard time killing off matches.”

“Even yesterday, Empoli were in the game right until the eightieth minute.”

“Another guy who looks tired to me is Calhanoglu.” Bergomi added.

“But it must also be said that the defensive solidity has returned. They held together well and saw the match home.”

Inter went back to fourteen points clear of AC Milan at the top of the Serie A table.

This means that the Nerazzurri now need just eleven points to secure the title. They could theoretically clinch the title in the derby.
