Inter Milan have mathematically clinched Champions League football for the seventh season in a row with their Serie A win over Roma.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the Nerazzurri’s certainty of participating in Europe’s top club competition next season.

Inter did not just beat Empoli yesterday evening. Lecce also earned a draw against Roma.

Those two results meant that the gap between the Nerazzurri and the Giallorossi is now 27 points in the Serie A table.

With eight matches to go, there are only 24 points to play for.

And with Roma sitting fifth in the table, that means that Inter cannot possibly finish lower than fourth in the Serie A table mathematically speaking.

Even in the highly unlikely event that the Nerazzurri were to lose all eight of their remaining matches.

There has been some uncertainty about qualification for the expanded Champions League format. Fifth place could even be good enough to get a spot in the competition.

But now it is absolutely certain – not that it’s looked in any doubt for a long time. The Nerazzurri will play in the Champions League next season.

Inter Secure Champions League Football For Seventh Season Running

Inter went a long time without Champions league football in the mid-2010s.

That made the return in 2018-19 season feel like a big event for the Nerazzurri.

Inter secured their place in that season’s Champions League with a win over Lazio on the final day of the 2017-18 season. That felt like a “sliding doors” moment at the time.

And since then, Inter have not failed to qualify for Europe’s top club competition.

All of Luciano Spalletti, Antonio Conte, and Simone Inzaghi have guided the Nerazzurri to top four finishes.

Now, it will be another one.

Therefore, Inter can move on to their next objective for the season – clinching the Serie A title.
