Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is facing some criticism for a blunt performance in Inter Milan’s Serie A match against Empoli.

As L’Interista highlight, the 26-year-old got the lowest scores of any Inter player in the player ratings for the match across Italian media.

Martinez started for Inter in yesterday evening’s Serie A match against Empoli.

And the Argentine did so knowing that he had gone more than a month without scoring a goal for Inter.

Martinez had scored for his national team during the break. He scored in the Albiceleste’s 3-1 friendly win over Costa Rica.

However, for Inter, Martinez had failed to score in Serie A matches against the likes of Genoa and Napoli.

Meanwhile, the Inter captain had been rested in a match away to Bologna.

And in a Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, Martinez not only did not score – the captain also had the rather dubious honour of being the player who missed the decisive penalty in the shootout that saw Inter crash out of the competition at the round of sixteen stage.

Lautaro Martinez Criticized To Score In Inter Vs Empoli Clash

Naturally, Martinez will, have felt the pressure to get on the scoresheet yesterday evening.

But in that respect, it was a disappointing evening for the Inter captain.

There were a couple of efforts from Martinez. But nothing close to the Empoli goal.

Moreover, Martinez was not much of a presence against Empoli defender Sebastiano Luperto.

There were a few good touches and passes from the Inter skipper, who can generally at least be relied on for solid linkup play.

But Martinez was not able to get on the scoresheet yet again.

Federico Dimarco scored Inter’s opener. And then Alexis Sanchez – the player who replaced Martinez – scored the team’s second goal.

Martinez looked clearly irritated as he was substituted off without a goal.
