Referee Federico Dionisi has won praise for getting all the major decisions right in yesterday’s Serie A clash between Inter Milan and Empoli.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, praise the official for his handling of the match.

Dionisi was the referee on duty for yesterday evening’s Serie A match at the San Siro.

The official kept a lid on proceedings, with the players never letting their emotions boil over.

There were two yellow cards in total, both going to Empoli players. Liberato Cacace and Nicco Cambiaghi both went into the book.

But by and large, it was a well-tempered match.

However, there were a couple of instances in which referee Dionisi had to make important decisions. And in the view of the Corriere, the referee got them right.

Federico Dionisi Praised For Getting Major Decisions Right In Inter Win Vs Empoli

Dionisi had two major penalty appeals that he had to decide upon.

One concerned a challenge by Empoli midfielder Szymon Zurkowski on Inter defender Benjamin Pavard.

The Nerazzurri player had hoped for a penalty. But Dionisi dismissed the Frenchman’s appeals.

Meanwhile, there was also an Empoli penalty appeal.

Defender Sebastiano Luperto appealed for a spot kick after what looked to be a clumsy challenge in the box by his Inter opposite number Francesco Acerbi.

However, Dionisi felt that there was not enough contact in the challenge. He did not point to the spot.

In the view of the Corriere, the referee got both of these decisions spot-on.

Meanwhile, the newspaper also argue that the VAR were correct to allow Inter’s opening goal.

There was a strong hint of offside by Inter striker Marcus Thuram shortly before Federico Dimarco’s goal.

However, the Corriere note, a clearance by Empoli defender Bartosz Bereszynski meant that a new move had started, and any potential offisde was not in the buildup to the goal.
