Inter Milan President Steven Zhang is not likely to be in attendance for the Nerazzurri’s prospective Serie A title celebrations.

Italian news outlet FCInterNews report that the Inter President is currently occupied with negotiations with Oaktree Capital, and so is not likely to leave China until those are concluded.

Inter President Zhang has yet to attend a Nerazzurri match in person this season.

Whereas last season, the President had travelled to Italy where he watched all of the team’s matches during the run-in, including the Champions League final in Istanbul, this time he has not left China.

Zhang has been attending to other business matters in his home country. These have included both things related to Inter, and other business dealings.

There has been uncertainty about when, exactly, Zhang will be back in Italy.

And according to FCIN, the Inter President is not likely to be in the country if and when Inter clinch the Serie A title.

Steven Zhang Unlikely To Be In Italy For Inter Serie A Title Celebrations

Inter have not mathematically secured the Serie A title just yet.

However, given the size of the Nerazzurri’s advantage at the top of the table, it would seem to be just a matter of time.

Therefore, it is very likely that Inter will be celebrating the title in the next few weeks.

But according to FCIN, the club’s President will not likely be present for those celebrations.

That is because, above all, Zhang is currently engaged in intense negotiations with Oaktree Capital regarding the loan that Inter owners Suning took on from the US-based fund.

The due date for that loan is now just a few weeks away.

Therefore, Zhang knows that an agreement regarding an extension on that due date must come very soon. Otherwise Suning would risk defaulting on the loan.

In that event, control of Suning’s shares would pass into the hands of Oaktree. And Zhang would no longer be Inter President.

The negotiations have yet to reach a conclusions.

But they will certainly have to soon. There will need to be time to hammer out the final details before the due date of the loan on May 20th.

FCIN report that the negotiations have been very secretive. Even Inter’s top directors such as CEO Beppe Marotta do not know the status of the talks.

But everything will be clarified soon. Zhang is working to ensure that in negotiations with Oaktree.

However, for that reason, the Inter President will not likely be present at any Serie A title celebrations in the coming weeks.
