Aston Villa are reportedly keeping an eye on Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries who is facing an uncertain future at Appiano Gentile.

The 27-year-old first joined the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2021 as a replacement for Achraf Hakimi.

The Dutchman had his highs and lows at San Siro. For instance, he started this campaign on a high note, but lost his starting berth to Matteo Darmian after suffering an injury in December.

In recent months, the club’s hierarchy completed the contract renewals of several key players. However, the directors haven’t been able to make a breakthrough in their talks with Dumfries’ entourage.

Inter are offering the player a net salary of 4 million euros per year, similar to fellow wingback Federico Dimarco. This would be a significant upgrade on his current wages (2.5M).

Yet, the Netherlands international is holding out for a salary worth 5 million per season.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri are seriously considering selling the player in the summer to avoid losing him for free when his current deal runs out in 2025.

According to Calciomercato, Aston Villa have emerged as a suitor. The Villains currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, closing in on a Champions League berth.

While the English side has yet to make a concrete approach, the source doesn’t rule out a first attempt in the coming weeks.

Inter Milan Wingback Denzel Dumfries Catches The Attention Of Aston Villa

For their part, Inter would be willing to entertain a bid in the region of 30 million euros.

However, the report claims that Dumfries doesn’t prioritize a move to Aston Villa at the moment. The wingback seeks a move towards a club capable of competing for the domestic league as well as the Champions League.

This season, the Dutchman has made 31 appearances in all competitions. He contributed with three goals and six assists.
