Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is enticed by the prospect of sealing the Scudetto title with a win over his former employers AC Milan.

The Nerazzurri are only two wins away from mathematically sealing the Serie A title. If they manage to beat Cagliari on Sunday, they will have the opportunity to finish the job in the Derby della Madonnina on April 22nd.

This would naturally be an epic scenario for the club as a whole, and especially for Calhanoglu.

Since making the crosstown switch in 2021, the Turkish star has become public enemy number one for the Rossoneri.

The midfielder was heavily ridiculed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic when Milan pipped Inter for the Scudetto in 2021/22.

Calhanoglu certainly hasn’t forgotten about it. Therefore, he admits that winning the Scudetto in the Derby would be a truly special occasion.

“If we were to win the Scuetto against Milan it would be crazy,” said the 30-year-old in his interview with CBS Sports Golazo via FcInterNews.

“it will be a very tough match but I hope more than anything that it will be good and clean.

“I also hope for calm celebrations, because I remember how the Rossoneri had celebrated in the past. Therefore, we want to do it differently.”

The playmaker then dwelled on Inter’s growth, giving major props to head coach Simone Inzaghi.

“We grew as a team after the defeat in the Champions League final against Manchester City.

“In my opinion, we have now become one of the best five clubs in the world.

“And then we have a great coach. It’s not easy for him but we try to help as best as we can. As footballers improve over time, the same goes for coaches.

“Inzaghi is very open. He tries many things. Inter have always been a great club, but they never played this style of football in the past.

“Now everyone is liking our football. So I have to say that Inzagh and his staff are doing a great job.”

Finally, Calhanoglu explained his transformation from an attacking midfielder into a Regista.

“People used to know me as a Number 10 who’s good at feekicks. Now I have grown into a new role which I like a lot. I kept it permanently when Brozovic left, and I’m happy with it.

“Sometimes I act like an extra defender. My teammates and I often exchange positions. This makes life difficult for the opponents.”

“In the past, I was ‘lighter’. But now I like to be aggressive when trying to recover the ball. When I receive it, I immediately look for spaces.”
