Inter Milan striker Marko Arnautovic could lose his spot in next season’s squad as the club seeks a deal with Genoa star Albert Gudmundsson.

The Austrian is currently in the midst of his second spell at Appiano Gentile.

He was part of Jose Mourinho’s treble-winning squad in 2009/10 but hardly featured at the time. The Austrian was a mere youngster who got lost in the shuffle.

Therefore, the 34-year-old returned to the club last summer with the aim of making a big impact this time around.

As Il Giorno (via FcInter1908) explains, many believed Arnautovic would play a major role this season.

The Austrian was tipped to play as a regular starter alongside Lautaro Martinez, especially when Marcus Thuram failed to impress in pre-season.

But when the official action began, the Frenchman hit the ground running. The 26-year-old cemented himself as the ultimate first choice alongside Martinez, leaving Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez on the bench.

On the other hand, the Austria international has been struggling to remain fit this season. His physical problems have been taking their toll on his performances on the pitch

The Arrival Of Albert Gumdunsson Would Further Complicate The Position Of Marko Arnautovic At Inter Milan

Moreover, the source believes that the former West Ham striker is facing an uncertain future at Inter.

This is because the Serie A leaders are keen to sign Gudmundsson from Genoa.

The 26-year-old has been one of the best revelations in the Italian top flight this season. He has already scored 12 league goals while playing as a second striker.

Therefore, the potential arrival of the Iceland international would push Arnautovic further down in Simone Inzaghi’s pecking order.

The Nerazzurri already have an agreement in hand with Porto striker Mehdi Taremi who will sign as a free agent in July.

Arnautovic has a contract until 2025, but it appears that he’ll either have to accept a part-time role next season or seek an exit in the summer.
