Inter Milan are on the verge of joining Man United, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Real Madrid in the “twenty-title club.”

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The Nerazzurri will also join domestic rivals Juventus.

It is certainly a matter of “when” rather than “if” Inter clinch the Serie A title this season.

The Nerazzurri can make it mathematically certain that they’ll finish the campaign as champions if they are to beat city rivals AC Milan in the derby on Monday.

But if Inter don’t clinch it then, they should do so in another week or two.

Winning this particular title will have a special significance for Inter.

This will be the Scudetto that allows the Nerazzurri to put a second star above their club crest. Each star represents ten league titles won in the club’s history.

The 2020-21 title was Inter’s nineteenth. And they’ve had to wait a few years to hit twenty. But now they’re on the precipice.

Inter will become just the second team to attain that second star in Italian football.

Juventus are still well in front in the standings for winning the Serie A title. The Bianconeri have won the Scudetto on 36 occasions – meaning that they have three stars.

But the team that Inter are currently level with – AC Milan – have nineteen titles to their name.

Abroad, there are four teams in Europe’s top five leagues to have won twenty league titles.

In the Premier League, Manchester United are they only team to have won twenty titles between the current league and the former First Division.

Liverpool, the Red Devils’ closest rivals in that respect, have won nineteen top flight titles.

Then in Germany, it is the Bundesliga’s dominant force Bayern Munich.

And in Spain, El Clasico rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona are the two teams to have won more than twenty La Liga titles between them.
