Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is “like a volcano ready to explode” ahead of Monday’s Serie A derby against AC Milan.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, highlight the 30-year-old’s hunger to clinch the Serie A title with a win over his former team.

Every Inter player is undeniably motivated and fired up to try and win Monday’s derby, and with it the Serie A title.

The derby is always a match that needs no introduction. And winning the Serie A title, no matter how, is obviously a massive goal for the Nerazzurri.

But the prospect of the derby being the final match before Inter clinch the Scudetto is something altogether special.

This would be entirely without precedent.

There would be sense of embarrassment from a Rossoneri perspective. Milan will do everything to at least delay Inter’s celebrations.

And there is one Nerazzurri player who would really and truly relish getting one over on the city rivals.

Hakan Calhanoglu “Like A Volcano Ready To Explode” Vs AC Milan

Calhanoglu was a Milan player for four years, between 2017 and 2021.

Then, in the summer of 2021, the Turkish international joined Inter on a free transfer.

When Calhanoglu came to the Nerazzurri, they were still celebrating the previous season’s Serie A title.

But then it was Calhanoglu’s former side Milan who beat them to the title in his first campaign at Inter. On the final day of the season, no less.

The irony of this was lost on few.

And there were some taunts aimed at Calhanoglu, including from his former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Milan’s Serie A title celebration parade.

Inter also failed to wrestle back the title in Calhanoglu’s second season at the club. Napoli won last season’s title.

But this time around, the Nerazzurri will get it back.

That will come as vindication for Calhanoglu no matter what. But it will be outright revenge if Inter can celebrate it under the noses of Milan.
