Simone Inzaghi feels it’s “probably destiny” that Inter Milan lost twice to Sassuolo in Serie A this season, home and away.

The coach spoke in a press conference after the Nerazzurri’s surprise 1-0 loss away at the Mapei Stadium, as reported by FCInterNews.

Inter have lost twice in Serie A this season.

And both times have come against the same team.

It would not take most Inter fans too many guesses to have accurately predicted which team this would be.

Not AC Milan. Not Juventus, Not Roma, Lazio, or Napoli.

Rather, it is Sassuolo who have always seemingly managed to be the Nerazzurri’s “bogey team” or “bete noire.”

The Neroverdi had handed Inter a 2-1 loss at the San Siro in the autumn.

Since then, Inter have not lost in the league as they’ve been the dominant force in the league and clinched the Serie A title.

Sassuolo on the other hand have faded badly as the campaign has gone on. This has caused them to slip into the relegation zone.

But in the second meeting of the season, the Emilian team got three massive points in their bid to stay in Serie A.

Simone Inzaghi: “Probably Destiny” Inter Lost Twice To Sassuolo

Inter coach Inzaghi remarked after the match that “Sassuolo are a quality side who are struggling this season due to some players being absent.”

“I’m thinking of Berardi,” the coach noted. “Who’s hugely important for them.”

“It was probably destiny that we lost both matches against them,” Inzaghi rued.

“They played well and were very organized. Congratulations to them.”

Meanwhile, Inzaghi was reluctant to blame the defeat on squad rotation.

“We’ve changed a lot,” the coach said. “As with all teams there are some players who play less, and others more.”

“Tonight, apart from the first twenty minutes, we did well. I said that the team looked focused to me, they wanted the victory.”

“That’s not how it went,” Inzaghi added. “But the guys worked hard until the 94th minute.”
