Former Nerazzurri Sporting Director Marco Branca expects that Lautaro Martinez will sign a new Inter Milan contract within a week or two.

The former Nerazzurri executive spoke to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb. He anticipated that new Inter owners Oaktree Capital should be able to bring the contract saga to an end quickly.

At the moment, Martinez is still on the same contract with Inter that he signed in the autumn of 2021.

The Argentine’s deal runs out at the end of June 2026.

There have been attempts by Inter to tie down Martinez’s future with a new contract.

Reports indicate that the negotiations between the Nerazzurri and Martinez’s representatives have been ongoing for some months now.

However, as of yet, Martinez has not put pen to paper on a new deal.

This has led to a bit of anxiety about the club captain’s situation. And the fact that Martinez’s agent has given a couple of interviews on the subject has not exactly helped matters.

Branca Expects Inter To Extend Lautaro Martinez’s Contract In “1-2 Weeks”

Then there is the further uncertainty coming from the fact that Inter just changed ownership.

Oaktree Capital took over the club by repossessing the controlling shares of previous owners Suning last week.

It remains to be seen exactly how Oaktree will run Inter.

However, in the view of former Nerazzurri Sporting Director Branca, the fund’s arrival at the helm can actually be precisely the thing that leads to Inter extending Martinez’s deal quickly.

Branca gave the view that, as far as Martinez’s contract situation goes, “Everything has been open, because the ownership situation has also been open.”

“Now that everything has happened, I think they can wrap it up within a week or two,” he predicted.

Branca said that “If one takes a look at the solidity of Oaktree, they have to be comfortable from a financial point of view.”

“We do have to give them a bit of time to really understand what it means to be fans of Inter,” he went on.

“That is, a team with a particular crest, a particular history.”

“But I think the fans should rest assured,” Branca said. “Because Oaktree is a major global power.”
