Inter Milan will promote Under-18 coach Andrea Zanchetta to the Under-19 job following the departure of Christin Chivu.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it. The outlet also anticipate that Samir Handanovic will take over the Nerazzurri Under-17 team next season, whilst it remains to be seen who the Under-18 coach is.

Former Inter defender and Romanian international Chivu will leave Inter’s Primavera side at the end of the season.

The 42-year-old has just completed his third season in charge of the Under-19 team.

Chivu took over the Primavera team in the summer of 2021. He replaced Armando Madonna in the role.

Prior to taking over the Under-19s, Chivu had worked for three years at Inter at other youth team levels.

The Romanian had previously played for Inter, winning the European Treble during the 2009-10 season with the club. Chivu had also played for the likes of Roma and Ajax.

Inter Milan To Promote Andrea Zanchetta As Successor To Christian Chivu

According to the Gazzetta, Inter have already decided on who will take the place of Chivu as the Under-19 coach.

Andrea Zanchetta has been the coach of the Nerazzurri’s Under-18 coach since 2021.

Prior to that, the former midfielder had also held roles as the Under-17 and Under-18 coach for the Nerazzurri, since 2016.

And for the first time, starting next season Zanchetta will take charge of the Primavera side. Inter will turn to the 49-year-old rather than hiring someone from outside the club’s youth academy.

For the time being, the Gazzetta report, Inter’s Under-18 team will have a coaching vacancy.

It remains to be seen who the Nerazzurri will appoint to replace Zanchetta in his role.

Meanwhile, former Inter captain Samir Handanovic will take over as Under-17 coach.

This will be the Slovenian’s first foray into coaching. He hung up his gloves last summer, and has spent this season working in a scouting capacity at Inter.
