Aston Villa Sporting Director Monchi has been in talks with the agent of Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries.

This according to Italian transfer journalist Nicolo Schira. Schira reported that the Villa executive has spoken to the Wasserman Agency about Dumfries as well as Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie.

This summer could be a turning point for 28-year-old former PSV wingback Dumfries.

The Dutchman joined Inter in the summer of 2021. He replaced Achraf Hakimi following the Moroccan’s move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Dumfries signed a four-year contract when he joined the Nerazzurri. And that is the contract that the Dutchman is still on.

Therefore, Dumfries’s deal runs out at the end of next June as things stand.

For this reason, Inter want to either extend Dumfries’s deal, or else cash in on the player this summer while they have the chance.

As of yet, the status of contract talks is up in the air. There have been negotiations, but Dumfries has yet to sign a new deal as there is still distance as far as wages are concerned.

Therefore, Inter could sell Dumfries this summer.

Aston Villa In Talks With Agent Of Inter Wingback Denzel Dumfries

If Dumfires is to be up for sale, the big question would be where the Dutchman goes next.

And the likeliest destination would appear to be the Premier League.

Manchester United have been the subject of persistent links to Dumfries.

But Aston Villa have also emerged as a major suitor for the Dutchman.

Villa have qualified for next season’s edition of the Champions League with a fourth place finish in the Premier League.

Therefore, the Birmingham side will be aiming to strengthen for next season.

And two players from Serie A have come onto Villa’s radar as targets to reinforce.

One is Juventus and US international midfielder McKennie. And another is Dumfries, with Italian journalist Schira reporting that talks with the two players’ agents have taken place.
