Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori had lavish praise for his international teammate and Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni.

Azzurri boss Luciano Spalletti picked both players in his preliminary Euro 2024.

With Francesco Acerbi already out of the squad due to an injury, most observers expect both players to make the cut.

In any case, Bastoni was always going to receive a berth given he’s already a pillar at the back.

For his part, Calafiori was a late addition to the Italy setup thanks to his brilliant campaign at Bologna.

The 22-year-old was one of the best revelations of the Serie A campaign, and many sources tip him to play his football at Juventus next season.

The Bologna star reflects on his sensational campaign at the Renato Dall’Ara, giving credit to Thiago Motta for helping him improve his game.

“I have improved a lot from a mental point of view, which is an important aspect for a footballer,” said the Italian in his press conference in Italy’s camp at Coverciano via FcInterNews.

“I had always displayed a strong character when in possession, but with Thiago Motta I really exploded.

“He always asked me to play ball and chain, without fear of making mistakes even if I commited some.”

On another note, Calafiori reserved great praise for his Italy teammate Bastoni.

“I try to steal a bit from everyone. Here in the national team, we have Bastoni.

“He is a devastating defender, I try to learn things from him.”

The 25-year-old has been plying his trade at Inter since making the move from Atalanta in 2017. His contract with the Nerazzurri is valid until 2028.
