Inter Milan have confirmed that defender Francesco Acerbi underwent surgery on his groin, and that it was a “perfect success.”

The club made an official announcement about the procedure for the former Lazio defender.

Inter defender Acerbi has been dealing with a persistent groin problem over the past few weeks.

The 36-year-old missed some matches in April and May due to the issue. He had started in the derby against AC Milan where Inter clinched the Serie A title, but then was out.

However, Acerbi returned for Inter’s last few matches of the season.

These included the Nerazzurri’s final match of the campaign, away to Hellas Verona. Acerbi played the full ninety minutes at the Bentegodi.

Nevertheless, the groin problem reoccurred for Acerbi.

Therefore, the decision was made that the former Lazio and Sassuolo defender would undergo surgery.

This means that Acerbi will miss the Euros with Italy this summer. He drops out of the Azzurri squad to recover from his surgery, with Juventus’s Federico Gatti taking his place.

Inter Milan Confirm Francesco Acerbi Surgery A “Perfect Success”

Given the nagging nature of Acerbi’s problem, the hope has been that surgery to correct it and then a summer in which to recover and rest would get the 36-year-old back to his best condition.

There are more than two months to go before the start of next season. And more than a month before Inter’s preseason starts.

In that respect, the timing for Acerbi’s surgery looks to be fairly fortuitous.

Inter confirm that the surgery was to the Italian international’s left inguinal wall.

And according to the club’s announcement, Acerbi has just underwent the surgery.

Moreover, Inter confirm, the surgery was a “perfect success” for the veteran defender.

Therefore, Acerbi should be able to spend the next few weeks getting back to his best.
