Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco is training separately from the Italy squad ahead of Saturday’s EURO 2024 clash with Switzerland.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that Italy coach Luciano Spalletti hopes to have Dimarco back to his best for the round of sixteen showdown.

Inter wingback Dimarco has started every one of Italy’s matches at the Euros so far.

The 26-year-old has started on the left of a back four, and as a wingback in more of a 3-5-2 system.

There is no doubt that Dimarco is a key player for the Azzurri, as he is for Inter.

But there have been one or two concerns about the Nerazzurri wingback’s fitness.

This was particularly the case after Dimarco had picked up a knock in Italy’s second match of the group stage, a defeat against Spain.

The problem for Dimarco was a heavy bruise to his left calf.

Federico Dimarco Training Individually Ahead Of Italy Vs Switzerland Clash

Doubts about Dimarco’s fitness were truthfully reflected in his performance in Italy’s final match of the group stage, a 1-1 draw with Croatia.

The Inter wingback started that match. But he looked off the pace and struggled to have an impact either defensively or in attack.

There had been doubts about whether Dimarco would even have been able to start.

This is a big worry for Italy coach Spalletti.

The Azzurri have just a couple more days to rest, recover, and prepare for their next big match.

Italy take on Switzerland in the round of sixteen of the tournament on Saturday evening.

And according to the Corriere, Dimarco has not been part of the full training session today.

Rather, the newspaper report, the 26-year-old has done individual work to improve his fitness and condition.

Spalletti’s hope is that Dimarco can return to his best form in time for Saturday evening’s match.
