Turkey coach Vincenzo Montella feels that Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is a “complete footballer.”

Speaking after Turkey’s EURO 2024 group stage win over Czechia, via FCInterNews, the former AC Milan and Fiorentina coach lavished praised on his team’s captain.

Calhanoglu is certainly a key player for Inter.

The 30-year-old has become more and more important for the Nerazzurri with each passing season.

Calhanoglu was named as the best midfielder in Serie A last season.

That has even led to some very high-profile transfer interest in the Turkish international. Bayern Munich are reportedly keen, and had even offered Calhanoglu a four-year contract.

However, Calhanoglu very publicly rebuffed the Bavarians. He made clear that he wants to stay at Inter this summer.

And Calhanoglu is certainly not just a key man for his club.

The former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is also the captain of the Turkish international team.

Calhanoglu has showed his importance for his country with his performances at the Euros this summer.

And the crowning moment of the Nerazzurri midfielder’s group stage was surely his opening goal against Czechia in their group stage win.

This ensured that Turkey qualify for the round of sixteen second in their group.

Turkey Coach Montella Full Of Praise For “Complete Footballer” Hakan Calhanoglu

Montella had already previously worked with Calhanoglu whilst he was AC Milan coach.

He recalled that “Hakan had signed for the Rossoneri after recovering from a serious injury.”

“He’s a very talented player, who needed time to develop his game.”

“Now we’re working together again,” Montella continued. “He’s a complete player.”

“He scored a brilliant goal,” the coach said of Calhanoglu’s opener against Czechia.

“There are few players in the world who can shoot the way that he did there.”

“It was incredible the way he struck the ball,” Montella said. “With the outside of his right foot, placing it into the top corner.”
