The President of the Albania FA insists Inter Milan star Kristjan Asllani was their best player at EURO 2024.

Speaking to Sportitalia, as quoted by FCInterNews Duka waxed lyrical about Asllani, who was among Albania’s standout performers in Germany.

This was Albania’s first EURO’s since 2016, and they failed to qualify from the so-called ‘group of death.’

Sylvinho’s men couldn’t have imagined a better start to the tournament. This as Sassuolo’s Nedim Bajrami scored the fastest goal in the history of the competition.

The goal meant Albania went 1-0 up against Italy.

However, Luciano Spalletti’s side turned the game on its head to run out 2-1 victors.

A nail-biting 2-2 draw against Croatia in round two gave the Albanians a fighting chance against Spain. However, Ferran Torres’ first-half winner sent Albania packing.

While Albania failed to make it out of the group stages of a major tournament for the first time, they didn’t disappoint.

At the thick of their spirited performances was Kristjan Asllani.

The Inter midfielder pulled all the strings in the engine room, showing glimpses of his tremendous playmaking potential.

Asked about Asllani’s showings in Germany, Duka replied: “Without a doubt, the best player of the European Championship of the Albanian national team.

“He has everything to become our leader in the future.”

Asllani, who joined Inter from Empoli in 2022, played second fiddle to Hakan Calhanoglu last term.

But a lack of regular first-team football didn’t prevent the 22-year-old from showcasing his class in the EURO’s.

The Elbasan native’s superb form for Albania can inspire further confidence at Giuseppe Meazza ahead of the title-defending campaign in 2024/25.

With Calhanoglu hitting a 30-year landmark, Simone Inzaghi will be happy to know he can rely on Asllani to deputy for the Turkey international when required.
