Marcos Alonso and Layvin Kurzawa are among Inter Milan’s main targets to cover for the lengthy injury absence of Tajon Buchanan.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter’s plan was always to have a relatively quiet transfer window.

The Nerazzurri have already done a lot of their transfer business for the summer. They have secured signings of Piotr Zielinski, Mehdi Taremi, and Josep Martinez early.

But Inter know as well as anyone that surprises and unexpected contingencies happen.

And a major injury to Tajon Buchanan – who is set to undergo surgery and will be out for several months following a tibia break yesterday – certainly falls into that category.

Inter only signed the 25-year-old in January. He came in, ironically enough, to cover for Juan Cuadrado who missed several months after undergoing surgery.

Buchanan is adept at playing on the right. But over the first half-season as an Inter player, coach Simone Inzaghi exclusively used the Canadian as a left-wingback.

The assumption was that Buchanan would be a key player for Inter’s depth on the flanks for next season.

But now, the Canadian looks set to miss the first few months of next season.

Therefore, Inter may feel that they have no option except to sign a player to take his place in the squad, at least on a temporary basis.

Marcos Alonso & Layvzin Kurzawa Options For Inter To Cover For Buchanan Injury

As far as wingbacks, Inter have all of Matteo Darmian, Denzel Dumfries, Federico Dimarco, and Carlos Augusto remaining.

The versatility available in the squad means that the Nerazzurri could sign either a left- or right-sided player.

But according to the Corriere, Inter are leaning towards signing a left-wingback.

That is where Buchanan had played exclusively for Inter last season.

And a move for Bologna’s Dan Ndoye would certainly be ruled out, not least because of the Swiss’s high price tag. He would only arrive as a replacement for Denzel Dumfries.

Inter’s plan is not to spend big on a signing to cover for Buchanan.

Therefore, free transfer opportunities are likely to be at the forefront of Inter’s search for a wingback.

According to the Corriere, Alonso – whose deal with Barcelona has expired – and Kurzawa – who has departed from PSG in the same circumstances – are the early favourites.
