Fiorentina have reportedly rekindled their interest in Genoa star Albert Gudmundsson as they look to beat off competition from Inter Milan and Napoli.

The Icelandic striker was one of the main revelations of the previous Serie A campaign.

He played an integral role in the Grifone’s successful bid to avoid relegation, producing delightful displays on a consistent basis.

The 27-year-old’s exploits earned him great acclaim as well as a host of suitors among the big boys.

In recent weeks, Inter appeared to be leading the queue for the Genoa talisman.

However, the Nerazzurri lacked the financial sources to complete the operation, with the Ligurians seeking a transfer fee of at least 35 million euros.

Therefore, this could grant the opportunity to other suitors to pounce on the situation.

According to Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews, Fiorentina have re-entered the race for Gudmundsson.

The Viola already tried to acquire the Genoa star in the past but to no avail.

The Tuscans have recently replaced their former coach Vincenzo Italiano with Raffaele Palladino. The latter is apparently a fan of the Iceland international.

Fiorentina realize that they could be facing some stern competition for the player’s services. In addition to Inter, Napoli have also been tracking the the second striker, while Lazio have inquired about his services recently.

Hence, the Purple club will be looking to speed up its attempts and put the deal over the line as soon as possible.

Gudmundsson scored 16 goals between the Serie A and Coppa Italia last term. His contract with Genoa is valid until 2027.
