Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu says that he “never thought of” leaving Inter Milan this summer despite transfer rumours.

The 30-year-old Turkish international spoke to Italian broadcaster SportItalia, via FCInterNews, after his national side’s EURO 2024 defeat to the Netherlands.

Calhanoglu has already put this summer’s transfer gossip to rest.

The former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen released a statement in response to rumours linking him to Bayern Munich last month.

Those rumours had gone on for a few days. They raised doubts about Calhanoglu’s future at Inter, in the face of a massive prospective offer from German giants Bayern.

But eventually, Calhanoglu decided that the rumours had been enough.

The Turk made a statement to calm the fans and confirm unequivocally that he was not going to leave this summer.

Calhanoglu called himself “extremely happy” to be at Inter.

The 30-year-old is therefore heading into his fourth season as a Nerazzurri player.

Calhanoglu joined Inter on a free transfer from AC Milan in the summer of 2021.

And in each of his three seasons at Inter so far, the Turkish international has become more important to the team.

Last campaign, Calhanoglu was named as the best midfielder in Serie A. He was a pivotal part of Inter’s dominant title triumph.

Hakan Calhanoglu: “Proud To Be Part Of Inter Milan, Never Thought Of Leaving”

And Inter midfielder Calhanoglu has once again confirmed that there was little to the rumours.

“I never thought about leaving,” he said in response to a question about the Bayern links.

“I’m proud to be part of the Inter family.”

Calhanoglu declared that “I’m an Interista.”

“My heart is Nerazzurri, and that continues to be the case,” the Turkish midfielder made clear.

Calhanoglu is out of EURO 2024 after losing 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the competition.

On the other hand, the 30-year-old’s Inter teammates Stefan de Vrij and Denzel Dumfries move on with the Netherlands.
