Former Inter Milan forward Alexis Sanchez could return to Ligue 1 towards the end of his playing career after drawing interest from Marseille.

According to Sky Sports via FCInterNews, the French giants are ready to bring the 35-year-old back to Stade Velodrome on a free transfer.

Sanchez might not be the player he once was, but he proved to be the Nerazzurri’s lucky charm.

When he first landed in Italy in 2020, he helped Inter halt a decade-long Serie A title drought.

Though he wasn’t a regular starter under Antonio Conte in 2020/21, his contribution was immense.

After winning two major domestic titles in two years at Giuseppe Meazza, he departed for Ligue 1 to link up with Marseille in 2022.

While his stint in France was short-lived, his impact was telling.

Sanchez’s haul of 14 goals and three assists across 35 league appearances in 2022/23 made Inter re-sign him last summer.

Again, it proved a massive hit.

Despite playing second fiddle to Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, the Chilean was part of Simone Inzaghi’s title-winning team.

He tallied only two goals and five assists from 23 Serie A outings. Yet, his talismanic presence saw Inter earn the second golden star on their jersey.

Alexis Sanchez Could Be On The Verge of Swapping Inter Milan for Marseille Again

Sanchez’s contract at Inter ran out at the end of this past June. He’s a free agent and can choose his next destination on his own terms.

France beckons for the veteran as Roberto De Zerbi bids to assemble a squad capable of fighting for the Ligue 1 crown.

Marseille had to settle for a below-par eighth-place finish in 2023/24.

As a result, they’ll miss out on European football next season.

De Zerbi sees the former Inter forward as an upgrade on his attacking options and could offer him a way back to the Velodrome.
